I Did It!

Wondering what I did? Well, I wrote an article about my rape. Well, not really. I wrote an article about a piece of legislation and spoke about my rape relative to it. 2 small paragraphs among almost 1,500 words. Today, I finished it and sent it to my editor for review.

I was freaking out a little but reminded myself that it’s not about me, it’s about all the women who need the law changed so they can start to heal. The way I’ve been given the gift of healing. I have amazing people around me, supporting, listening, validating, helping me let go of it as an ‘everyday’ thing.

Today, I was brave and sent the article to my editor. And the world didn’t stop! I’m really proud of myself. Seeing it in print might be a completely separate conversation.

But for today, I did it and I’m proud of myself!

  1. Good for you! I write about my journey on my blog, and I have told some people in my life, but I think that putting it out there under my real name even as a reference would be something I could never do…I haven’t so far, anyway, but then again, it’s been just…well, 4 years now. Seems like it was yesterday.

      Hi seekingafrica,

Thank you for your comment. I apologize for my delay in replying to you! I’m proud of you for saying something and you never know when someone or something might inspire you to say something under your real name. And, even if that day never comes, you’re brave and I’m proud of you! I still have days when mine feels like yesterday, too. Thank you for following me. I appreciate it!
